Orienteering Team

Winter Park NJROTC

Orienteering is a very unique sport that NJROTC Cadets have the opportunity to participate in. The sport originated in 18th Century Sweden by the Swedish Military, eventually making its way to North America during World War II.

The sport utilizes navigational and athletic skills. Participants are given a topographical map of the course and a compass and compete for the fastest time to complete the course. Area 7 NJROTC Orienteering Competitions take place around the State Parks of Florida, and Cadets orienteer along the trails and forests.

The orienteering team holds practice twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays after school). Competitions are held as field trips on the weekends, sometimes even overnight camping trips! Any Cadet interested in running and navigation are encouraged to attend!
